Spark of Joy
Do you need some help with organizing your valuables?
Do you have difficulty thinking about what to keep and throw away?
Do you always need help finding where you place your keys?
The Konmari method can answer your dilemma in organizing your things. The Konmari method was coined and pioneered by Japanese consultant Marie Kondo. A lot of Japanese know her as Konmari. Marie Kondo started to get interested in practicing tidying up things when she was nine years old, and since then, she has always had that burning desire to make her life and others easier.
I could have done better at organizing my things from childhood until adulthood. Whenever I misplaced my items, I always asked my mom where I placed my things (as expected, I earned a certain amount of scolding after mom handed over the thing to me).
My life changed when I came across the Konmari method. At first, I was doubtful that Marie Kondo's technique could take away my messy lifestyle at that time. Hence, as I listened to her more and more, I realized that it was easy as 123 to tidy up my things.
Konmari suggested three tips on how to tidy up.
1. Only keep items that spark joy.
2. If the items you keep don't give you joy anymore, let them go.
3. Repeat the process.
Konmari suggested simple yet profound advice that I practice whenever I see my things unorganized. If the things we keep don't spark joy anymore, we should let them go (I am not saying to let go of your loved ones that don't spark joy anymore). I am sure Konmari created her method for things only. However, you could use the philosophy behind the process for other things, such as decluttering your desktop or anything with electronic clutter. The Konmari method can help you to find the spark of joy in your life.
"The process of assessing how you feel about the things you own, identifying those that have fulfilled their purpose, expressed your gratitude, and bidding them farewell, is really about examining your inner self, a rite of passage to a new life." - Marie Kondo.
